ul. Grunwaldzka, in the Children’s Park
The monument is often called the Jagiełło monument.
Unveiled 19 August 1911 on today’s Plac Niepodległości (old Town Square).
Design: Wojciech Brzega.
Masonry: Jan Stopka - Czajka with his son, Józef
Bronze casting: Franciszek Kopeczyński, Kraków.
In 1925 an anonymous benefactor placed a stone plaque engraved „The unknown soldier”.
In 1941 the occupying Nazi forces ordered the monument destroyed. In 1948, thanks to Stanisław Kwaśny, who hid elements of the monument during its demolition, the monument was rebuilt and located in the Municipal Park, as a monument to soviet soldiers had been built in its old location.
